Barnes Film Festival is now in its second year – The festival showcases young filmmaking talent from schools, colleges and universities across the UK, together with award-winning films from around the world.  Barnes Film Festival celebrates diversity, passion and creativity, and connects young filmmakers – and anybody interested in film – with industry professionals. As well as our Youth Filmmaking Competition, the Festival hosts inspiring film events for all, including workshops, discussions, screenings and gatherings, with leading figures from the film, documentary and animation industries.

Now, with their second festival approaching, Barnes Film Festival are promoting their Youth Film Competition for 2017 entries. The competition is across 3 age categories: 12 and under, 13 to 18 and 19-25, and prizes are offered for the winner of each category.

The winner of last years 18-25 category, Liam Harris writes:

“The Barnes Film Festival is an extremely well run and friendly festival which I recommend everyone take notice of. I submitted my animated short film Perched to Barnes as they were highlighting the theme of the environment and global warming which was taken in by an young and enthusiatic audience. Barnes was the first win for Perched which has since gone on to screen at over 65 festivals worldwide, winning 18 awards and has also been seen at 6 Oscar qualifying screenings. Not only that but I now work for a top London based Production company who offered my the role of 2D commercials Director due to seeing Perched at the Barnes Film Festival. It has certainly changed my life and for that I am extremely grateful”

One aspect of the competition they feel strongly about is their insistence that every film is made specifically for Barnes Film Festival. The intention is to encourage filmmakers to improve in their craft of filmmaking, by making unique content.
