Sun, Secrets and Synthetic Diamonds: Rising Bilingual Star Matt Gras in Feature Film Debut, Rough Cut

French and bilingual actor Matt Gras is set to make his debut as a lead actor in the feature film Rough Cut, a film based on a best seller novel of the same name by award-wining director Owen Carey-Jones. In this gut gripping thriller mixing with excellence the exciting elements of murder mystery, action, romance and synthetic diamonds on the French Riviera, Matt plays Jacques – A local boy from Port Grimaud who unexpectedly inherits a small fortune and gets trapped in the web of international trafficking of diamonds, putting his life (and those of his loved ones) in great danger.

Matt was born into a family of French artist and embraced his passion for cinema at a young age. He studied art, drama and film making in Paris, and decided to move to the UK to give his acting career chance to shine on the international scene.

“Rough Cut embodies everything I love about the indie industry – an original and ambitious story, thrilling characters, hardworking cast and crew members, fantastic production values on a budget, and the singular voice of an emergent director. It took a decade for Owen (Carey Jones) to adapt his book on a big screen – his tenacity is truly admirable.”

From 2011 to 2013, Matt he has been cast in a myriad of independent feature films and short film productions, including “New With Tags” directed by Matthew Nesbeth (Royal TV Society award 2013), “Expectations” directed by Martin Doyle (London SciFi Festival 2012), “4:48” directed by Jaky Katu, “Art Ache” by Berty Cadihac, and “Sparks and Embers” by Galvin Boyter. In 2013 he had his first leading appearance on French television for the series “Par Amour” which gathered five million spectators behind their TV screen.

“I am a real underdog. Five years ago I decided to commit entirely to this amazing job that is acting, and worked at it as others build muscles in a gym – every single day (no exception). I grew up as a performer from one project to another, and had the joy of a few first successes and also learned how to take the hits, to be patient and resilient and how to harness my dream in order to turn it into reality. To meet you on a big screen with Rough Cut means a lot to me as it will be the first chapter of our story… I hope you will enjoy this ride from one film and another and will remember that your wildest dreams are made to be accomplished.”

As well as being cast as a lead in Rough Cut, Matt will also appear as a lead in Imprisoned (featuring Martin Kemp and Kelly Downes) and the political thriller Virtue by RADA director/actress Cara Bamford.

Rough Cut will Premiere at the Prince Charles Cinema (London) on 13th October 2015 with a UK national release on 16th October 2015 (Showcase Cinemas).
