Interview - Tamar Bird

To begin with, tell us about your latest film “Haven”…

Haven is a short film about a young girl who decides to speak her truth while getting her hair done by her mother.

How did you get involved with the film?

Kelly is the Director and I am the Producer. Last year Kelly presented the script to me and I instantly knew we had to make this film.

What are your influences as a film producer?

As a Producer my influence comes from the amazing stories that need to be told. Stories about triumph, struggle, happiness and just life overall. That is what influences me.

What advice would you have for anyone trying to crack the industry?

No one gets here overnight! The industry is hard and it takes a certain type of person to last in it. You can’t take things personal, you have to have thick skin but also know your worth. You can be the most talented person in the room but if you aren’t working just as hard then it’s useless.

What is the next step for you? Do you have any other films or projects in production?

The next step for Kelly and I is to come out with our web series, Parea this year. Start working on our feature, A Jamaican Goodbye and our short He’s One of Us.
