The 72nd Cannes Film Festival starts today and it already promises two exciting weeks of long-awaited films, tributes to some of the most important icons in the film industry and thousands of stars galloping on the red carpet.

Jim Jarmusch‘s star-studded The dead don’t die opens the festival in Competition, leading the way to some great talent, coming this year to the Croisette. Over the next few days, Kleber Mendonça Filho with his new film Bacurau, Sorry We Missed You by Ken Loach, Dexter Fletcher‘s Elton John biopic Rocketman & Jessica Hausner‘s Little Joe are among the highly anticipated titles. And these are only a few, along with the parallel sections of the festival Un Certain Regard, opening today with Monia Chokri‘s Le Femme De Mon Frère, The director’s fortnight opening tomorrow with Deepskin by Quentin Dupieux and the Semaine De La Critique with Franco Lolli‘s Litigante.

The Competition Jury’s work starts with The Dead Don’t Die and will conclude with Sibyl by Justine Triet on Friday 24th May, a day before they get on stage to present the winners of this year’s Palme D’Or and Palmares. Alejandro Gonzáles Iñárritu presides the 9 member jury, with Maimouna N’Diaye, Yorgos Lanthimos, Pawel Pawlikowski, Elle Fanning, Kelly Reichardt, Alice Rohrwacher, Enki Bilal & Robin Campillo, sharing the jury duty.

Another festival highlight-to-be is Quentin Tarantino‘s return to Cannes with Once Upon a time… in Hollywood. The director’s participation in the competition was a last minute addition, changing instantly the dynamic in this year’s vibrant selection, including films from well acclaimed filmmakers as well as newcomers or sidebar Cannes events veterans.

We will be updating you on all the news from the Croisette over the next two weeks, so stay tuned and Bon Festival!
