Wild – Quick Review
Based on the novel by Cheryl Strayed and helmed by Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club), this human-interest story accounts an anguished soul, played here by Reese Witherspoon, who walks hundreds of miles to slip her skin like Springsteen in the perennial Streets of Philadelphia. In an attempt to purify her mind after an ugly span of loss and breakdowns, Cheryl hikes the Pacific Crest Trail, a backpacker’s dare of epic beauty. Her backstory comes in way of annoying narrative flashbacks, but once you’ve settled into its to-and-fro rhythms, Cheryl’s crusade becomes a cathartic boost and companion piece to Tracks and Into the Wild.
In cinemas January 16th
