Whiplash – Quick Review

Here played with unrivalled magnetism by J.K Simmons, Terrence Fletcher is a music instructor full of hard insults and homophonic gags; a fierce oppressor who makes R. Lee Ermey’s Full Metal Jacket drill sergeant look like a pixie in comparison. A talented and determined drummer Andrew (Divergent’s Miles Teller) is handpicked by Fletcher to join his jazz band only to become his next victim. What follows is a war of attrition that carries the dramatic weight of a 12-round boxing bout. Writer/director Damien Chazelle orchestrates a musical masterpiece that wakes up the rhythm inside us.

In cinemas January 16th
