Some Ideas While Waiting For The Next Star Wars

So it’s that time of year again; the Christmas blockbusters are out in force at the theatres, the award season is just around the corner and every movie fan is eagerly anticipating the upcoming crop of Oscar hopes and summer blockbusters. So what does this year hold for the film geeks of the world? You can’t throw a rock without hearing about the upcoming Star Wars: Anthology instalment Rogue One or Tarantino’s 8th film The Hateful Eight. But what about those films you may not have heard of? Here’s my run-down of a few of the titles I’m most looking forward to this coming year.

Coen_brothers_2007

First up is Joel and Ethan Coen’s latest offering Hail Ceaser! Slated for a February 5th release Hail Ceaser! is a welcome return to comedy for the brothers, who haven’t dipped their toes into the comedy water since 2009’s black comedy A Serious Man. The film sees Josh Brolin as Eddie Mannix a Hollywood ‘fixer’ who must raise and deliver the ransom when George Clooney’s Baird Whitlock is kidnapped by a group known simply as ‘The Future’. With the limited information on plot available the premise sounds simple, but knowing the Coen brothers masterful touch with comedy I’d expect crazy characters, intersecting vignettes and hilarity, lot’s of hilarity!

Released on February 26th is the fantasy adventure Gods of Egypt. Starring Gerard Butler as Set the Egyptian god of darkness who takes over the Egyptian empire, with Brenton Thwaites as the mortal hero Bek and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as the god Horus teamed up to defeat him. I’m really looking forward to this as I’ve recently fallen in love with the fantastic Cleopatra slot game from Lady Lucks. Fancy giving it a try? Join LadyLucks.com today and enjoy a huge range of great games. Directed by Alex Proyas of Crow and I, Robot fame this ancient epic looks set to impress with it’s cast of relatively unknown actors; and I for one am glad to see ancient Egypt in the cinema again. 2014’s Exodus: Gods & Kings really showed what modern techniques are capable of when recreating one of history’s greatest ancient cultures.

The film I seriously can’t wait for really has to be Augusts hottest release, Suicide Squad. Although not much has been revealed about the plot, as yet, the premise of a bunch of super-villains taking the missions deemed too dirty for their super-hero counterparts is just plain brilliant. I’ve been on the edge of my seat for this one since the teasers hit the web. Being written and directed by David Ayr is reason alone to get excited, the writer/director responsible for End of Watch and the screenplay for Training Day is always solid gold in my humble opinion. All eyes will be on Jared Leto and his performance of the Joker, no doubt drawing instant comparisons with Heath Ledgers, but personally I’m looking forward to see what Will Smith does with the Deadshot role.

So there you have it, a few picks ‘for your consideration’, if nothing else they should cut through the new years swamp of gong grabbers and keep us going till another Star Wars film hits the screens!
