Encounters Short Film & Animation Festival is over for another year…and what a year it has been! FilmDebate became partners with Encounters a few short weeks prior to the festival beginning, giving me the opportunity to attend the festival and sample some of the many animations, short films, lectures and workshops the festival has to offer.

Whilst I could only attend two days of Encounters, I gain a comprehensive feel for the festival. The passion for the event was tangible, possessing a friendly, helpful team of organisers and volunteers. Encounters supports the exceptional work of filmmakers and animators from all over the world; America, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Romania, and of course the United Kingdom to name a few…all of them showcasing a multitude different cultural styles, messages, themes, representations and genres.

however, Its not all about the films – as a press member, I was fortunate enough to experience an alternative overview of the festival – A view that focuses on networking, and the important role of building relationships between industry members. During the course of the two days there was more opportunity for networking than I have ever previously encountered – I met with film & media personalities from all all over the world – A place that is simply a dream for anyone in the film industry!

So…would I recommend Encounters? Absolutely! If you are a media/film industry member, or simply a fan of short films and animation, it is definitely the place for you – make sure you book a ticket next year…and if you are a filmmaker, get submitting!
